Oldschool players with JP Accounts & The new Expansion

I was one of the people who started pretty early on FFXI with my JP PS2. CoP and ToAU I got from Lik-Sang back then - of course like a week late.

Back then when ToAU came out I think to remember someone pointed out a Shop from Japan that would open up the Expansion for you and send you the registry code for it per e-mail. That was long long ago but I think that´s how it was.

Anyone remember anything about that? How are the other oldschoolers with a JP Account getting their WotG/WotGKey? ...any of them even left?

You could always ask a friend in Japan to do this for you.

Since you can purchase your codes directly from S-E, have you considered going to the JP POL website to buy it?

And as mentioned^ the files would be on the internet somewhere. I'll say TY to BG for thinking ahead and hosting them. It isn't necessary, but it helps alot of people out from scrounging online or waiting for FednotveryExpress.

This works on a PC with US FFXI installed:

    - Get a JP POL CD somewhere
    - Install JP POL
    - Copy tree of Registry Entries from PlayOnlineUS to PlayOnline
    - Copy over all files from the US Final Fantasy Folder
    - Fix FFXI registry entries for the JP version to point to the JP install path
    - Delete files.txt from the Final Fantasy folder in the JP installation

Game will do a complete file check, then you've got both installations with only the JP POL CD.

In other news, I'm in the EU with an US account. But my girlfriend is currently in the US, so I'll probably get the expansion on release date this time. =)

/edit: Maybe stuff like this and things like macro backup and registry screen resolution tweaks are worth a wiki page? I'll write something up when I'm bored at work next time. =)

/edit2: To get IME to work properly in JP POL, you have to set "Support for non-Unicode Programs" to Japanese in Windows or s/th.

Re: Oldschool players with JP Accounts & The new Expansion

If they let you buy the code online like they do now with the other expansions. It may be possible to only need an ISO of the disc to play the expansion.

Re: Oldschool players with JP Accounts & The new Expansion

I think this question is kinda related....

I live in the UK, and I have 2 accounts. One is my orginal EU account, and my second is my friend who quit which is a NA account.

Do I need 2 copies of the game, one NA and one EU to be able to use them both after the new expansion? Or will they work with just the 1 EU game?

Re: Oldschool players with JP Accounts & The new Expansion

You'd need two copies. one NA and one EU. (You'd need 2 EU copies if both accounts were EU. One expansion per account)

Re: Oldschool players with JP Accounts & The new Expansion

You can already dl jp pol updated straight from the pol website.

    http://www.playonline.com/ff11/download ... geID=media

we will be having an official "I need X location copy of wotg" and we will have all versions of the ISOs hosted via the bg-wiki.com domain courtesy FA-Networks.com
thats not our domain name! its fanetworks.net silly

    And 2nd:
Theres only 1 copy of the ISO that you need, everyone can install off it (JP ver prolly is just a jp installer.. still same content)

And i dont think the iso will fit on the bgwiki domain and i was planning to put it up anyways so itll likely be on faservers.net/ffxi/ or something,

how ever people still will need to buy the CD Keys!

JP/NA games are identical, only the POLs slightly differ.

Once you get the content ID registered for the expansion, however, you only need 1 copy of the game to actually play. NA POL can play EU account and vice versa. However, you need to use the EU POL to do any member services(pw change, cc info etc.)

If yer gonna be hosting the file you might find it better to just setup a Bittorrent download link here as well since it wil lavoid the possibility of congestion if a significant amount of ppl try downloading it all at once.
